Prison Ministries

…I was in prison and you came to visit Me.  Matt. 25:36b (NIV)

Ascension’s prison ministry raises awareness that Jesus Christ calls us to visit those in prison as if they are our own family. We have prison ministry opportunities at federal, state and county facilities, at men’s and women’s facilities and outreach to halfway houses and individuals.

Our Mission: Equipping Lutherans to be Bible-based influences in our congregation and community for those incarcerated and their families.

Our Vision: We honor and recognize that all people, including offenders of the law, are created in God’s image with salvation through Jesus Christ available to everyone. We encourage Gospel outreach and support of prisoners, through Bible Study, mentoring, prayer, donations and participation in efforts to spread the Word of God in loving and supporting ways. “…He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners…” Luke 4:18 (NIV).

Did you ever think God would ask you to do something HARD, something a bit out of your comfort zone? Can you think of one thing that your mother told you NEVER do, that God might ask you to do this year? Something like ‘go to prison.’ Looking for a new ministry that will teach you more than you can imagine? Perhaps change your ideas on society, church, people, education… THEN, maybe you will be interested in this verse in the Gospel of Matthew  “…I was in prison and you came to visit Me.” Matt. 25:36b (NIV).

Prison Ministry is for everyone. It is for Christians who want to hear Christ say “well done.” It is for children who receive gifts through the Angel Tree program. It is for relatives who had/have family in jail and know the heart break of crime. It is for mentors who help during the transition from ‘in to out’. It is for members who can underwrite some of the cost of programs. It is for those who take the commands of Christ seriously when He says “…whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me.”  Matt. 25:40 (NIV). I can hardly wait to tell you what a blessing prison ministry will be for you. You’ll be surprised!
